Children’s rooms and playrooms that grow with them

We design nurseries, children’s bedrooms and playrooms that are joyful now and still work in five years’ time. Storage works hard, materials stand up to daily life, and every room reflects the child it belongs to — designed with families across London, from Notting Hill to Muswell Hill.

Why it’s worth it

What children’s interior design gives you

In short: Children’s interior design is the planning and styling of nurseries, bedrooms and playrooms around a child’s age, interests, safety and storage — designed to adapt as they grow.

  • Designed to evolve

Layouts and joinery that adapt from nursery to big-kid room, so you aren’t starting again every few years.

  • Storage that actually works

Bespoke storage solutions sized for toys, books and clothes — the secret to calm family spaces.

  • Personality, not themes

We use each child’s interests, wallpaper, colour and art (including theirs) without tipping into short-lived themes.

  • Kids love the process

Lisa is famously good with children. Clients tell us the process was exciting for their kids as well as for them.

The process

How it works, step by step

  1. 01

    Getting to know you

A paid initial consultation to talk through your ideas, inspiration and goals, followed by a detailed brief and an estimate proposal covering budget, time and design fee.

  2. 02

    Design direction

Mood boards, sketches and concept presentations set the direction. Your feedback shapes each round until the concept feels right.

  3. 03

    Detailed design

Supplier and trade meetings, space planning, material and fabric samples, a fully itemised FF&E sourcing list and detailed drawings — plans, elevations and, where useful, 3D visuals.

  4. 04

    Delivery

Project co-ordination, regular site visits, procurement, deliveries and installation — then final styling and the reveal.

“My kids rooms are impeccable, from wallpaper, to beds to decorative items that pull it all together. She specializes in this area so if you’re looking for kids / family space design, Born & Bred does a fantastic job.”

Questions

Children’s Interior Design: FAQs

More answers on our FAQ page

Can you design just one child’s bedroom?

Yes. Many projects start with a single nursery or bedroom, and some families come back for the next room as their children grow. A 2-hour design consultation is also a good way to get expert direction for one room.

How do you make a child’s room last as they grow?

We plan the bones — layout, joinery and storage — for the long term, and keep the youngest-feeling elements in things that are easy to change, such as bedding, art and accessories. The room evolves without a full redesign.

Do you design playrooms and family rooms too?

Yes. Playrooms and family spaces are a big part of our portfolio, from loft playrooms to snugs and multi-use rooms that work for children by day and adults by night.

Do children get a say?

Absolutely. We like to meet the person the room is for. Their interests often shape the colours, wallpaper and art, while we take care of practicality and durability.
